DEC, the Digital Equipment Corporation was formed in 1957.  Key systems in the DEC range included the PDP (-1 to -11), VAX, MIPS and Alpha machines.

Although a pivotal figure in the nascent computer industry, DEC eventually faltered in the 90s and was bought out by Compaq in 1998, which was in turn acquired by HP (Hewlett Packard) in 2002.
